Butterfly Valley Part 2

This post is mostly photos ... and anecdotal stories to go with them. Enjoy ...

View from the top of Butterfly Bay. I am not sure if I have mentioned that Butterfly Bay was once a Hippie spot. Now it is a camping beach and a stop of for sailing tours around the islands. This weekend there is a big Rave going on and loud music pounding up the valley. The police are keeping a close eye on it ... looking out for drug dealers. Good luck to them I say.

Pomegranate Tree ... it is ok to pick fruit of a tree if it is on a public access way. We have been eating fresh figs, grapes, carob and pomegranates as we have been on our walks or walking along the road, we just pick them ... they are so yummy. Does that not sound exotic!

Pomegranate seeds ... you break open the fruit and only eat the red seeds ... not the membrane, which is bitter tasting ... the red seeds are tasty.

These are the women who work in the kitchen cooking for us. I offered to help out one day and I really enjoyed myself ... we could not understand each other very well, but I really enjoyed their company. I cut my thumb part way through chopping peppers and was quickly evicted, but I had fun while it lasted. I felt a real sense of bonding with these women. They work in the kitchen every day. These women are awesome cooks!

Walking Group #2 ... we walked away from the ocean on this walk ... up to a waterfall cave. Another great group of people ... back is Mel (left) and Adele (right) from Tasmania, walking along some of the Lycian Way ... we really enjoyed their company, they were a lot of fun. In the front ... Cameron from Canada ... a great walking companion and great conversations ... myself and Kat, our perfect guide. We were a great walking group together and had a lot of fun and good conversation ... and we boldly walked where we had not walked before.

Kat and I sitting on the rocks by a pool of fresh water ... a lot colder than the ocean! Kat has introduced me to Peshtemal ... they are cotton towels, not towelling, look a little like shawls but are actually towels. I love them ... of course!

Look what I saw sitting on a rock just inside a cave ... I had to take a photo ... it's tail is amazing! There was another one inside the cave, but it got a way.

Climbing up the waterfall ... not a very good shot due to light, but I think it gives you an idea of what we were doing.

Group shot in the pool at the top of our climb ...

Pete & I ... just in case you have forgotten how we look ...

This is how fruit and vegetables are dried here ... these are red peppers drying on the roof ...

Swimming in Paradise ... our second trip to Paradise ...

We really enjoyed Mel & Adele from Tassy ... we missed them when they left on their hike. We saw turtles in the ocean, while travelling back to Kabak Beach in our water taxi ... they looked huge!

The cave where Pete had his near death experience ... me trying to scramble up the rocks ... not easy!

Trying the panoramic fixture on our camera ... we came out onto this paddock on our walk up a mountain ... I loved it ... I felt like I had walked into a Western movie. I thought this was beautiful. We had a great walk that day ... most of our walks have been around 3/4 hours. Great warm up for Nepal. I would love to come back here and do the Lycian Way.

Cameron the Creative Genius in our Group ... one very enjoyable companion.

A ruin on our walk ... they pop up everywhere.

View of Butterfly Valley from the top ... our photo does not really do it justice ... it was beautiful up there.

Our room for our last night here at George House ... they call these Tree Houses ... we had to shift rooms.  There are no doors or windows, just heavy duty curtains that hang off the roof. We will miss Butterfly Valley ... and the company of new friends. We really enjoy meeting new people, we find them refreshing and interesting. If any of you find your way to Turkey make sure you visit George House, you will not regret it.
